What is Cold Brew Coffee?

Cold Brew Coffee is coffee brewed with cold water, using time instead of heat to extract the flavour from the beans. Using a temperature-controlled system, we steep fresh grinds in cold water for 18 hours. The Cold Brewing slowly extracts the flavours of the coffee focusing on the region and varietals of the bean, rather than roast profile. The end result is a smooth, naturally sweet and rich coffee concentrate, with no bitterness and is up to 70% less acidic.

How did you develop your signature Cold brew coffee recipe?

In the beginning, we held several tastings with the community at The Centre for Social Innovation to gain feedback and find the best possible recipe. Through this feedback and the expertise of our brewmaster Mike Roy, we developed our signature Cold Brew Coffee.

Where do you get your beans?

Our signature Cold Brew is a blend of both Ethiopian and Brazilian regions, locally roasted by Hale Coffee Co.  Our beans are responsibly sourced by Social, using direct trade policies to ensure fairness and equality for the farmers and their families that provide us with such quality beans.

How is cold brew different from regular coffee?

Cold Brew is similar to regular hot coffee, while also being vastly different.  Cold Brew is proven to be up to 70% less acidic than regular coffee.  Most 'Iced Coffee' beverages are made using chilled hot coffee, or fresh espresso.  By brewing cold and never being heated, Cold Brew does not portray any bitterness or 'oily' flavours.

How is Cold Brew made?

Station Cold Brew is made using a custom and very specific time sensitive process.  Using only fresh ground beans and clean filtered water, we maintain our consistency by brewing in a temperature-controlled environment to ensure only the best quality Cold Brew.  We keep our quality control in check with a VST refractometer designed to measure coffee beverages.

What does Direct Trade mean?

Direct trade is a term used by roasters who buy straight from the growers and farmers, cutting out traditional middleman buyers and sellers as well as the organizations that control certifications such as Fair Trade. Direct trade models build mutually beneficial and respectful relationships with individual producers or cooperatives in each individual country. This provides more control over the quality of the coffee, our social impact as well as environmental concerns.

Are your beans 100% Arabica?

Yes, we only use 100% Arabica Beans.  We feel that Arabica beans provide the best flavour profiles for Cold Brew Coffee.

Is Cold Brew Gluten Free?

Station Cold Brew is a Gluten Free product. We are currently in the process of obtaining certification and until that time, we cannot commit to being 100% Gluten Free.

Is your product Organic?

Although our product has no added preservatives, sugars etc., we are not certified Organic.  We only use responsibly sourced beans, from clean and safe farms and the beans we use come from clean soil and are naturally sun dried.
